There are times at work when the tones sound off and it is not a pleasant sound. I was reminded of this on my first shift back of 2016. Having just landed from our first flight of the day the 1815 tones second flight so close to the end of 1900 shift made our heads drop.
These two flights were successfully completed. Leaving the base at 2100 I had a feeling of pride knowing that we had saved two lives. You see the two flights that we had flown were both extremely time critical. Without the medcrew providing amazing care during the transport both of the patients may not have made it. Today two families still have a husband and a father based off of our actions.
So when to tones sound off at the end of a long day and you are late getting home to your family please think about how you may have just saved a life! Be proud and be thankful. The job of being a ‘First Responder’ counts on heroes like you and ‘bus drivers’ like me (AKA- a helicopter air ambulance pilot).
