What is “Section Integrity?”
A “Section” is a term that is used in military aviation that describes two aircraft that are flying and fighting as a single unit. The “Section Integrity” principle implies a responsibility of each aircraft to consider and respond to the environmental conditions that are affecting both aircraft in the Section. It does not, however, alleviate the responsibility of dealing with the dynamics encountered within their own aircraft.
Military aviators spend countless hours perfecting this principle as part of their basic tactical skill sets, and “Section Integrity” principle functions as the building block for even more complex tactical constructs—many of which are employed in the most extreme and challenging environments imaginable.
Why the “Section Integrity” Principle matters…
Section Integrity allows for 360-degree perspective of the environmental conditions. Through enhanced situational awareness, the Section can respond more effectively to changing conditions.
If used effectively, the “Section Integrity” principle still allows each aircraft to freely maneuver in any direction it needs to in order to respond to individual conditions, but the Section works continuously to ensure they remain engaged with their partner and provide mutual support no matter what conditions they may encounter.
Perspective is what makes “Section Integrity” such a powerful principle
An individual aircraft cannot easily see what is below and behind them. However, if a second aircraft is positioned to the right or left with enough separation, each can easily detect what is behind, above and below the other—making them mutually supportable. Effective employment of this principle enhances the survivability and effectiveness of both aircraft, and postures both to better respond to the environmental conditions. We apply the same logic in support of our customers. Sometimes all you need to gain in order to overcome organizational obstacles is a little bit of perspective, and our team specializes in helping customers gain exactly that.
